Home / Senior Intern, Project Coordinator, Global Coalition for Democratic ResilienceSenior Intern, Project Coordinator, Global Coalition for Democratic ResilienceSpecial Initiatives part-time Washington, D.C. or RemoteThe Special Initiatives team at the New Lines Institute for Strategy and Policy is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as a Senior Intern Project Coordinator for an ambitious new project with Special Initiatives. New Lines' Special Initiatives team produces groundbreaking research and analysis that is timely, targeted, and designed to be highly impactful from a policy perspective. The Global Coalition for Democratic Resilience is an emerging project under Special Initiatives that will include creating and managing a coalition of scholars and think tanks working on areas around strengthening democracy and pushing back on autocracy including Transnational Repression, Disinformation, and U.S.-Taiwan Relations.We are seeking an individual who can think creatively and take initiative while getting the work done. This is not a conventional internship. In Special Initiatives, our interns are an integral part of our team and our work. You will be working with high-level diplomats and top experts on live, sensitive projects with real-world impacts. Individuals with expertise/experience on transnational repression, China, Taiwan, and Indo-Pacific studies are highly encouraged to apply for this position.The internship is paid ($18-20/hour, based on experience) and will begin as soon as possible. The intern is expected to commit to 20-29 hours a week (depending on availability), and the internship term is for six months, with the potential for renewal. Interested candidates do not need to be present in Washington, D.C.To be eligible, candidates must:

  • Preferably be in their final year of undergraduate studies or be graduate-level students, although students who have already graduated with their bachelor's or master's degree(s) are also eligible to apply;
  • Have a background in transnational repression, authoritarianism, rule of law, civil rights, or Asia studies;
  • Have strong project management and coordination skills.Duties include:
    • Supporting the Senior Director of Special Initiatives by coordinating a global coalition of think tanks, including scheduling working meetings, managing institutional relationships, and stewarding partnerships.
    • Supporting aspects of meeting and event organization and management, including public events and private working group discussions and consultations.
    • Coordinating external events and roundtable discussions, including preparing invitations, making travel arrangements, corresponding with speakers and presiders, preparing background papers and materials for distribution, and providing other logistical support.
    • Developing and maintaining relationships with external partners able to provide relevant information or assist in its collection.
    • Providing administrative support to the team in communications and coordination with the Senior Director and non-resident fellows.
    • Providing contract management support for non-resident fellows and assist with budgeting and implementation plans for projects.
    • Performing other duties as assigned.A successful candidate should demonstrate the following qualities:
      • A positive attitude and passion for the subject area.
      • Well-developed writing skills.
      • Ability to work individually and as part of a team.
      • Experience performing clerical and administrative work.
